Act of Service

One thing for someone with no expectation of return

**Why it works:** When we help without needing credit, we strengthen connection and meaning. This shows up across cultures, spiritual traditions, and modern psychology. The key is sincerity. Do it because it supports them, not because it boosts your self-image. That difference changes the experience in your nervous system too. Self-interested giving tends to create a quick dopamine hit. Unconditional service is more likely to leave a steadier sense of belonging and wellbeing. **How to do it:** 1. Look for something that would genuinely make someone's life easier or better today. 2. Do it. Do not announce it ahead of time, and do not fish for gratitude. 3. Small things count completely: make someone coffee, send a real message, hold a door, help with a task without being asked. 4. The act must be for them, not for the story you will tell about having done it. 5. Log it privately. The logging is for tracking, not for sharing. **In The Quest:** Log it in the app. One genuine act of service counts as complete for the week.
