Deep Listening
One conversation where you only listen, no fixing
**Why it works:** A lot of "listening" is really just waiting for a turn to speak, or turning what you hear into advice and personal stories. Quiet, receptive listening is rare, and people often describe it as one of the most meaningful things someone has ever done for them. This practice also shows you how often listening becomes self-management instead of true presence.
**How to do it:**
1. Choose a conversation, with anyone.
2. Make a private commitment before it begins. You are here to understand them, not to add to the content.
3. Listen without inserting yourself. Skip "I know exactly what you mean, one time I..."
4. Ask questions only to deepen your understanding of them, not to redirect.
5. Notice the urge to speak. Notice it and return to listening.
**In The Quest:** Log it in the app. One full conversation where you stayed in listening mode counts as complete. Self-reported. Aim for at least three times per week.
