Circle roles
Host, Admin, Moderator, Member. What each one can do, how to hand one out, and what happens when someone leaves.
Running a Circle on your own gets old. There are four roles, and you hand out three of them from your roster.
The four roles
| Role | What they can do |

| Host | Holds the circle. Everything an Admin does, and the Host is the only one who sets these roles. |
| Admin | Runs the circle with you. Edits the settings, hands out tasks, sends a Dispatch, and messages any member. |
| Moderator | Keeps the room in order. Sees the full roster and can message any member directly. |
| Member | In the circle. Posts, shows up, takes part. |
Everyone starts as a Member. Nobody is given anything until you give it to them.
How to set someone's role
Open your Circle, go to the Members tab, and pick the role beside their name. The change takes effect straight away and they keep it until you change it again.
Only the Host sets roles. An Admin can do almost everything you can, and this is the one thing they cannot: it stops a circle's leadership from being handed around without the person who holds the circle knowing.
The Host role works differently
You do not assign Host. There is exactly one, it is you, and the only way it moves is if you hand the whole Circle to someone else. See how to start a Circle for that.
A role belongs to the membership, not the person
Someone's role lives on their place in this Circle. Two things follow:
- Being an Admin in one Circle gives them nothing in any other Circle, including ones run by the same Space.
- If they leave the Circle, the role goes with them. Rejoining brings them back as a plain Member, so a role is never quietly waiting for someone who walked away.
Who to make an Admin
Someone who already shows up. The Circles that keep going are the ones where more than one person is on the hook for the next meetup, and the fastest way to get there is to ask the person who has never missed one. If you are not sure, Moderator is the smaller step: it lets someone keep an eye on the room without handing over your settings.
