How do people find my Space in search?
Link your Frequency page from the places people already look, name your town and what you do in plain words, and claim your free Google Business Profile if you have a place.
People find a local group by searching for what you do and where you are, so the pages that rank are the ones that say both, in plain words, and that other places link to. Four steps cover most of it, and all of them are free.
What should my Space page say?
Say your town and what you do in the first lines of your Space description. "Run club in Carlsbad, all paces" tells a search engine and a stranger the same thing. Use the words someone would type, not a clever name.
Keep the title of each event clear in the same way: what it is, then where. Events you publish publicly can show up in search with the date and place, so a clear title is worth the extra few words.
Where else should I link my Space?
Put your Frequency page, or your website if you have published one, anywhere you already have a presence:
- Your Instagram bio and any link-in-bio page.
- Your email signature.
- Your own website, if you have one, with a button that says what to do ("See our next gathering").
- A partner's page, such as a studio, cafe or venue you meet at. Ask them for one link and offer the same back.
Each link tells search engines that real people point at your Space. A few good links from places that fit beat many from places that do not.
Your website starts on a free address, yourspace.frequencylocal.com. You can use your own
domain too; see Your website.
Should I claim a Google Business Profile?
If you meet at a real place you operate from, such as a studio, a shop or a regular venue you run, yes. It is free, and it is what Google shows on a map when someone searches your name.
- Open business.google.com and sign in.
- Add your name and category, and choose whether people visit a location or you travel to them.
- Add your website or Frequency page, your hours and a short description in plain words.
- Complete Google's verification. A postcard can take about a week, so start early.
If you only meet in public places and have no place of your own, skip it. Google can suspend a profile that lists an address you do not operate from.
How long does it take?
New pages are often picked up within days, and links and a profile can take weeks to matter. Keep the page current, keep your events up to date, and keep asking one partner at a time for a link.
